"Las hermanas Brontë nacieron en la sociedad inglesa del siglo XIX, en donde el papel de la mujer estaba muy delimitado; se dedicaron a la literatura en contra de las normas y conductas de la época, una actividad vetada por aquel entonces a las mujeres. Charlotte, Emily y Anne se adelantaron a su tiempo e iniciaron una lucha que sería ganada años después.
La primera publicación de las hermanas fue un libro de poemas escrito de manera conjunta y con los pseudónimos de Currer, Ellis y Acton Bell. Al año siguiente, en 1847, las tres escribieron de forma independiente sus novelas más celebres: Charlotte, “Jane Eyre”; Emily, “Cumbres borrascosas” y Anne, “Agnes Grey”.
